LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 2010 national runner-up UC San Diego baseball team has 27 student-athletes participating on numerous Summer League teams in the off-season. With final exams finished, head coach Dan O'Brien has announced which student-athletes will be headed where to work on their games. The extensive list includes Tim Shibuya (Northwood League), Kellen Lee and Nick Hudson (Jayhawk League), Evan Kehoe and Taylor Austin (New York Collegiate Baseball League) and Kyle Saul and Guido Knudson (New England Collegiate Baseball League).
The Tritons set or tied 19 different team records during the 2010 season and advanced to the D-II National Championship game in Cary, North Carolina.
The 2011 season schedule has not been announced, but it can be expected that the Tritons will open the season on the first day of February.
The Tritons lose eight seniors off the 2010 squad but return several student-athletes with experience including ABCA All-Americans Saul, Lee and Shibuya, and Daktronics All-American Aaron Bauman. The pitching staff should be strong again, led by Shibuya, Knudson, Daniel Simmons and Elias Tuma.
