Matt Ustaszewski is in his fourth season on the UC San Diego men's water polo staff in 2013. He is in his first go-around as the associate head coach, having been promoted to that post in late January following three years as an assistant at his alma mater.

Ustaszewski returned to UCSD in 2010 after a very successful stint at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. He served as the Jaguars' men's water polo head coach for four years, while also instructing exercise science classes. Ustaszewski was named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009.

Prior to taking over the water polo program, Ustaszewski spent time as the men's and women's swimming and diving head coach at Southwestern, while also assisting with both the men's and women's water polo teams. He has also been a substitute teacher for the San Diego Unified School District and coached with the La Jolla Water Polo and Heartland Swim Association clubs.

Ustaszewski is no stranger to the La Jolla campus. He maintained a 3.2 grade-point average in completing his bachelor's degree in history from UCSD in 2004, and was a captain for the fifth-ranked Triton water polo team as a senior in 2003. Ustaszewski earned his teaching credential in social studies from San Diego State in 2007, and is currently pursuing his Master of Science in physical education at Azusa Pacific University. He is engaged to be married to former Triton soccer standout Heather Szafraniec (2002-05).
