CLEVELAND - The Division II Athletics Directors Association
announced the recipients of the 2009-10 DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards on
Tuesday and a total of 61 student-athletes from UC San Diego received the
honor.
Presented by WeatherPORT, the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards program
recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. A
total of 92 institutions submitted nominees, with a total of 3,022
student-athletes earning the distinction.
To qualify for the Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the
institution must be a current dues paying member of the DII ADA. The
student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher,
have attended a minimum of two years at their current institution and have been
an active member of an intercollegiate team during the previous academic year.
"We want to thank and congratulate those
colleges and universities that took part in honoring its
student-athletes," said Division II ADA President Greg Waggoner, director of athletics at Western State College of
Colorado. "We look forward to continued participation in the future and
wish everyone the best of luck during the upcoming year."
UCSD had honorees from a total of 19 sports, with women's track and field leading
the way with eight selections. Women's crew, women's soccer, men's soccer and
men's tennis had five honorees apiece.
