NO. 4 WOMEN CAGERS FACE ROAD TEST AT SAN BERNARDINO
Coach Charity Elliott's undefeated and fourth-ranked Women's Basketball team will look to make it back-to-back victories over CCAA foe Cal State San Bernardino (2-4/1-2) when it visits the Coyotes' home court tonight...Off to their second best start ever, the 9-0 Tritons are one of three CCAA teams that remain unbeaten in conference action.
UCSD got its ninth win seven days ago at RIMAC Arena, routing Cal State San Bernardino, 70-45, behind a 19-pt., 12 rebound performance from senior forward Lauren Freidenberg...The Seattle native hit 7-of-8 from the field and all five charity tosses while recording a team high three steals for good measure...The Tritons raced out to a 19-4 lead from the opening tip and shot 59% while building a 42-17 halftime advantage...UC out-rebounded the Coyotes, 51-29, with 13 different players snagging at least one carom...Senior guard Chelsea Carlisle backed up Freidenberg with 13 points and four assists.
HOOPSTERS GET SECOND TRY VS. CSU SAN BERNARDINO
Still searching for its first conference win, the Men's Basketball team (4-4/0-4) hits the road tonight for a rematch with Cal State San Bernardino (4-2/3-0)...The Coyotes edged the Tritons, 66-63, in a double overtime brawl, Nov. 22, that was the CCAA opener for both squads...Coach Chris Carlson's outfit is coming off an 81-67 triumph over D-II regional foe Dixie State eight days ago...San Bernardino is tied with Cal Poly Pomona at the top of the conference table.
GOOD LONG COURSE SHOWING FOR TRITONS VS. CAL POLY
In a unique long course meters format, the Swimming & Diving team earned a "split decision" against Division I Cal Poly, Sunday afternoon at Canyonview Pool...The men's team, spurred by three double winners, dunked the Mustangs, 214-80, while the women fell, 185-113, despite a herculean performance by senior Alex Henley.
On the men's side, UCSD found the top of the podium in 15 events...Getting two wins apiece for the Tritons were senior Matt Herman (400 freestyle/4:10.16 & 1,500 freestyle/16:30.11 freestyle), junior diver Tyler Runsten (1-meter/289.9 pts. & 3-meter/303 pts.) and sophomore Alex Merrill who captured both the 100 (54.17) and 200 (1:55.89) freestyles.
Henley touched first in all three of her individual races---100 (1:06.66) and 200 (2:23.69) backstrokes and the 400 IM (5:07.49)---and also teamed with sophomore Anji Shakya and freshmen Jaclyn Amog and Eva Chen on the victorious 400 medley relay unit (4:31.87)...Amog was the only Triton besides Henley to finish first, clocking 27.93 in the 50 freestyle.

SPIKERS TO PREP WITH HOME EXHIBITION
Coach Kevin Ring's 2012 Men's Volleyball squad will get its final pre-season tune-up Jan. 2 when it hosts Brandon at RIMAC Arena...Ring's club, which includes key returnees Carl Eberts (326 kills in 2011), Sebastian Brady (158), Nick Iorfino (130) and Mike Brunsting, who handed out 259 assists as the back-up to setter Phil Bannan, will open the regular season three days later with the first of two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) matches at Hawaii.

UCSD Soccer players continue to pile up post-season honors...Sophomores Alec Arsht and Cory Wolfrom both gained third team NSCAA All-West Region accolades last week...Meanwhile, on the women's side, senior Sarah McTigue, who led UCSD with eight goals in 2011, garnered third team NSCAA All-America honors...McTigue was also first team NSCAA All-West Region where she was joined by fellow senior midfielder Annie Wethe and junior defender Hayley Johnson...Senior Shelby Wong was awarded second team status and freshman Cassie Callahan was a third teamer.
