PENSACOLA, Fla. - After waiting out a rain delay Saturday, the No. 21 UC San Diego women's tennis team lost, 8-1, at ninth-ranked West Florida in day two action at the West Florida Invitational.  

UCSD was swept in doubles matches and fell in five of six singles matchups. With the loss, the Tritons are now 6-9 on the season, while the Argos improved their record to 12-6.

Samantha Yeung secured the lone win for the Tritons at No. 5 on the singles ladder. She defeated Naomi Higa in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The victory brought Yeung to a perfect 4-0 at the No. 5 position in 2012.

Two other Tritons forced three sets in their singles matchups, with Melissa Breisacher falling 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 at No. 1 and Krystal Mizuguchi losing 6-1, 0-6, 7-5 at No. 6.

On the doubles side, West Florida swept UCSD. Breisacher and Jacquelyn Davis fell, 8-6, to Caitlin Baines and Sheila Smiley, 8-5. At No. 2, Tara Vanooteghem and Melinda Chu were defeated, 8-2, and at No. 3 Katie Mulloy and Laura Wilke fell, 8-5.

"Everyone competed so hard and played really well," said UCSD head coach Liz LaPlante. "Both Melissa [Breisacher] and Krystal [Mizuguchi] played exceptionally well, but lost in three sets. Samantha [Yeung] had a great win."

The Tritons wrap up play at the tournament Sunday as they face Valdosta at 6 a.m. PST.
