Rose Qualifies for 400 Meters Finals on Opening Day of NCAA Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. - Senior standout Jacqueline Rose was the lone UC San Diego student-athlete competing on Thursday as the 2012 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships got underway at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Rose, who will represent the Tritons in a total of three events at the championships this weekend, ran in the preliminaries of the women's 400 meters on Thursday and posted a fourth-place time of 54.37. She will move on to compete in the finals of the event on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. PT.

Kelly Shaw of St. Augustine's had the top prelim time of 53.11, while Kayon Robinson of Adams State was second at 53.17 and Virginia State's Samantha Edwards clocked in at 53.66 to finish third.

Rose will be back in action on Friday when she takes part in the preliminaries of the 200 meters at 4:30. She'll then join teammates Sabrina Pimentel, Lauren Irish and Deyna Roberson as they try to earn a spot in the 4x400 relay finals at 6:50.

UCSD has a total of seven athletes competing in Pueblo, including five women and two men.
