ATHLETICS RECOGNITION DINNER THURSDAY NIGHT
The 2012 Athletics Recognition Dinner, slated for this Thursday night at the Price Center Ballroom is a "sellout" with more than 600 expected to be in attendance...The annual event which recognizes outstanding performances and contributions by UCSD student-athletes, coaches, staff and supporters, will be highlighted by the naming of the Outstanding Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes of the Year...Check ucsdtritons.com on Friday for information and photos from the dinner.

TRITON ATHLETES CAPTURE ACADEMIC HONORS
UC San Diego student-athletes garnered academic awards in two sports last week...Senior pitcher Elias Tuma of the Baseball squad was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team for the second consecutive year, snagging second team honors...Tuma, who sports a 3.93 cumulative GPA in cognitive science, led the CCAA in appearances as one of the stalwarts out of the bullpen for a Triton team that won its fourth straight conference regular season and championship tournament titles.

Meanwhile, Coach Kevin Ring's Men's Volleyball team placed six individuals on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team, matching Stanford and Pacific for the most of any school in the conference...Earning honors for UCSD were juniors Carl Eberts and Chase Frishman, sophomores Sebastian Brady, Vaun Lennon and Mike Brunsting and freshman Cheyne Hayes.

                     

NEWS & NOTES
This week's edition of Triton Talk, UCSD's weekly online radio show hosted by Craig Elsten, is scheduled to feature interviews with assistant men's basketball coach Clint Allard, two-sport athlete Annie Wethe and sophomore Vaun Lennon from men's volleyball...The show will be posted Wednesday afternoon at ucsdtritons.com.

Seven UCSD coaches were honored as Coach of the Year in their respective conferences...The seven were Brian McManus (women's soccer), Denny Harper (men's water polo), Charity Elliott (women's basketball), Matt Macedo (men's swimming), Corrie Falcon (women's swimming), Eric Newman (baseball) and Michelle Casillas (diving).
