No. 11 UC San Diego To Host No. 10 Long Beach State Friday
Release: Wednesday 10/10/2012
by UCSD

THE SCHEDULE
Friday, October 12 • 6:00 p.m.
No. 11 UCSD vs. No. 10 Long Beach State
Canyonview Pool • La Jolla, Calif.

RECORD SETTING: After recording a single game high saves (18) against Air Force, Cameron Ravanbach leads the Tritons in saves, breaking the 100 mark with 116 blocked shots on the season leading into this weekend. If Ravanbach continues at this rate, it is possible to break into the single season top 10 all-time saves list.

TEAM LEADERS:
John Butler remains the team leader in assists at 27 for the season. Butler set a single game high in the game against UC Davis at the NorCal Invite, dishing out six assists in the 11-3 win. The single season record at UCSD is 65 assists set by Adnan Jerkovich in '06.
• After leading the team in total goals for the week of Sept. 24-30, Josh Stiling leads UCSD in goals scored. Marginally surpassing his season total from last year, Stiling sits at 49 goals on the year.

WHEN WE LAST MET THE 49ERS: The two teams met at this exact time last year. UC San Diego looks to flip the switch as they are the hosting squad in the match up this year. The Tritons dropped a 8-9 decision to the 49ers in a physically played overtime match at Long Beach State. Graham Saber and Brian Donohoe led the Tritons on the offensive front, scoring two goals apiece.
Josh Stiling broke a 7-7 tie to give UCSD the lead by one with 3:34 remaining in the match. UCSD would hold that lead until the final 10 seconds of the fourth quarter, when Nick Rascon scored out of a 49er timeout with seven seconds to play to force overtime. LBSU notched the game-winner a minute and half into the first overtime as the Tritons were unable to score in the extra period.

SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE: The 49ers are currently 16-3 on the season, most recently going 4-0 at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont Oct. 5-6. While Long Beach State has not played any of its own conference opponents, LBSU has gone 9-1 when taking on WWPA teams only falling to Loyola Marymount at the SoCal Tournament.

LOOKING AHEAD: Next week's competition starts early with a home match on Thursday, Oct. 18 as the Tritons host No. 13 Air Force at Canyonview Pool. UCSD travels to Los Angeles over the weekend for two single-day games, first visiting conference foe Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Oct. 20. The squad then returns on Sunday to take on UCLA at Spieker Aquatics Center. Both away game times set for noon.

AROUND THE WWPA: This week features a 15-game slate. Six of the 15 turns into key conference head-to-head match-ups. It begins early with Whittier taking on La Verne and Occidental at Redlands on Wednesday. It continues Saturday with Pomona-Pitzer at Occidental, Claremont at La Verne, and Whittier at Redlands. Highlighting the showdowns in conference play will be No. 13 Air Force hosting No. 17 UC Davis at 12 noon. The Tritons currently sit in second among conference opponents only behind Loyola Marymount who posts a 7-1 record in the WWPA.
