MEN'S BASKETBALL HOME VS. SAN BERNARDINO ON DEC. 30
After experiencing an unexpected non-conference "no-contest" at home Sunday with Pacifica (the visiting Gladiators were not able to field enough eligible players to compete), Coach Chris Carlson's Men's Basketball side will take a 10-day competitive hiatus before diving back into CCAA action Dec. 30 at RIMAC Arena against Cal State San Bernardino (4-1/3-0)...The Tritons, still 1-5 overall will be looking for their first conference win vs. CSUSB...They fell, 90-82, to the Coyotes in their league opener which was played at San Bernardino...Senior Justin Brue scored 24 and pulled down nine rebounds in that one and junior point guard James McCann dished out seven assists to go with 21 markers...CSUSB plays Cal Baptist and Azusa Pacific prior to facing the Tritons.
TRITON WOMEN SUFFER FIRST CCAA LOSS; CSUSB NEXT
Coach Heidi VanDerveer's Women's Basketball team suffered its first loss in conference play in its first CCAA road contest of the season, a 66-62 defeat at Cal State San Bernardino Sunday afternoon...In an affair that featured 18 lead changes, senior Daisy Feder's 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists were not enough to earn the final decision for the Tritons...Despite out-shooting the Coyotes, UCSD was down by three at the break and got its final lead with 6:06 remaining on a bucket by junior Erin Dautremont...The difference in this one was likely San Bernardino's depth as the home side's bench out-scored UCSD's, 25-11...Dautremont, who accounted for 16 points and six boards provided the only significant offensive support for Feder...On the positive side, the Tritons out-rebounded the Coyotes, 38-30, and sophomore post Dana Webster continued to show improvement, garnering eight points and seven rebounds.
The Tritons are back in action Dec. 30, hosting the same CSUSB squad at RIMAC Arena.
