LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team continued action in the second day of the 124th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship on Friday, held at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.

Following Thursday's victory in the main draw's opening round of 128, Max Jiganti and Kona Luu faced the sixth-seeded Pepperdine pairing of Sebastian Fanselow and Alex Sarkissian in the round of 64. Unfortunately, Fanselow and Sarkissian blanked Jiganti and Luu in the first set, 6-0, and defeated the Triton twosome, 6-2, in the second set.

Back in the main draw round of 128, three Triton pairings began the day with tough matches, including  Ganesh Alagappan and Horea Porutiu, who took on Oak Park native Scott Doerner and Malibu native Hugh Clarke but lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

However, in the first round of consolation matches, Camill Salomon and Devon Sousa defeated Fresno State's Nikolas Papic and Jeremy Quiroz after winning by a score of 6-2 in both sets.

Maxence Dutreix and Guy Giubilato played the seventh-seeded duo of Brent Davis (U.S.) and San Diego native Trent Miller. Davis and Miller beat Dutreix and Giubilato in the first set, 6-2. However, Dutreix and Giubilato won three more games in the second set before falling, 7-5.

After entering the consolation bracket, Alagappan and Porutiu reached back-to-back rounds in which their opponents were no-shows, and thus, advanced to Friday's third round of consolation play.

Salomon and Sousa will play at 9 a.m. on Saturday in consolation draw third round matches against the pairing of Arthur Hernandez (U.S.) and Chris Dunk of Newport Beach. Alagappan and Porutiu will also begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday against Yousef Benhamida and Zachary Leslie, both natives of San Diego.

UCSD assistant coaches Tavi Popaluca and Jason Wall won their first round consolation match Friday, defeating Klaus Puestow and Alexandre Thirouin of Boston College, 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.

The tournament, the second-oldest in the United States, runs through Sunday.
