A GLANCE BACK AT THE 2012 T.O.C.
The Tritons finished 3-3 at the Tournament of Champions in 2012. After moving to the Consolation Bracket with a 3-2 record in the first round, UCSD dropped a late 1-0 decision to Western Washington University. The Vikings scored the game's only run in the top of the seventh inning on back-to-back, two-out doubles by centerfielder Jessica Carey and pitcher Stephanie Fox. Prior to the seventh inning, Camille Gaito (18-6) had limited WWU to just five hits, one of them for extra bases. The Tritons finished the game with four hits.

WEEKEND PERSPECTIVE
UCSD has combined for a 36-31 all-time record against the five opponents assigned to its bracket this weekend - Cal Baptist (12-10), Grand Canyon (11-9), Dominican (1-0), Hawaii Hilo (6-10) and Chaminade (6-2). The Tritons hold winning records over four of the five. UCSD is 29-11 (.725) at the T.O.C. since 2006.

TRITON UPDATE
Senior Nicole Spangler leads the team with a .362 batting average, 34 hits and eight doubles. Catcher Caitlin Brown has a team-best .594 slugging percentage, 27 RBI and six home runs. Emily McQuaid leads the team with 18 stolen bases, while Kirsten Willmon is 11-for-12. Mya Romero leads the CCAA with 84 assists on the season, while the team is currently third with 317. In the circle, Jennifer Manuel holds a 7-1 record with a 2.12 ERA and a team-high 10 starts.  Kayla Hensel has eight starts on 15 appearances with 65.1 innings pitched, compiling an 8-4 record. Alexis Edwards owns a 1.11 ERA  in her 16 appearances to lead the conference. Michelle Escamilla rounds out the pitching roster with 12 appearances over the season, which includes seven starts.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
Consistent success at the plate led the Tritons to their first series sweep of the season this past weekend at Triton Softball Field. Emily McQuaid, Caitlin Brown and Taylor Sepulveda each posted at least one hit in all four games with San Francisco State. On the mound, Alexis Edwards threw two complete games for a pair of wins, taking her season record to 4-2. The first was a seven inning, two-hit shutout to open the series. The second was a 4-3 nine-inning victory.

SEPULVEDA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Sepulveda was instrumental in helping UCSD to four home wins over San Francisco State, the team's first series sweep of the season. Her play over the weekend earned her UCSDtritons.com Player of the Week, a career first for her. The sophomore outfielder batted .545 (6-for-11), had an RBI in each game and stole five bases against the Gators. In the third game of the series, a 4-3 extra-inning win, she had three hits, scored a run, drove in another and swiped three bags. Her ninth-inning RBI single tied the game and she eventually came around to score, ending the contest in walk-off fashion.

HOT HITTER
Junior Caitlin Brown connected for her sixth home run of the season in the series finale with San Francisco State last Saturday. Now with 17 round-trippers, the junior jumped up the program's career leader board to the number four spot. Jenny Maze (2004-08) owns the school record with 35 career home runs.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Nicole Spangler is posting chart-climbing numbers with eight doubles on the season. She'll need 13 to get on UCSD's single season top-10 list.

SPEED KILLS
Emily McQuaid ranks second in the CCAA and leads the Tritons with 18 stolen bases, showing she's a runner to keep your eye on. McQuaid had a single game-high three steals against Regis University on Feb. 17 and again at home against San Francisco State on March 29. McQuaid now sits at No. 5 on the program's career top-10, tied with Brittni Carino (2004-07) with 44 swipes.
