SOFTBALL ROLLS PAST STANISLAUS; FIRST PLACE AT STAKE VS. HUMBOLDT STATE
Coming off a four-game road sweep at Cal State Stanislaus, Coach Patti Gerckens’ Softball team faces its biggest test of the season when it travels to Northern California for the third consecutive weekend to tackle first place Humboldt State (36-12/23-5) for four games…The Tritons, now 28-16 overall and 21-7 in CCAA play, jumped over Sonoma State into second place last week and trail Humboldt State by just two games...Offense was the name of the game vs. Stanislaus as UCSD, which has won eight conference games in a row and 10-of-11, pounded Warrior pitching for 43 hits…The quartet of Caitlin Brown, Taylor Sepulveda, Kirsten Willmon and Emily McQuaid accounted for 25...One of Willmon's was an inside-the-park home run...For complete Softball results, click here.
THE WORD... from UCSD Softball Coach Patti Gerckens:
“Right now, we’re probably the most well-rounded we’ve been all year. Offensively, defensively and pitching-wise, our team is starting to come together very nicely. I sense our players are very determined to not only make it to post-season play but continue as far as they can. They’re very focused on a team approach and making each other better. Our end of the season travel scenario is very grueling but we have our sights set high.”
CRUCIAL FOUR-GAME SET AT CHICO STATE LOOMS FOR BASEBALL
It’s make-or-break time for Coach Eric Newman’s Baseball team which will travel to Northern California to take on CCAA frontrunner Chico State (30-6/23-5) for four games, starting Friday night…The Tritons, who had a week off from CCAA play last week, are 20-18 overall, 14-14 in conference action and part of a three-way tie for sixth, are still two games out of fourth, which would get them a slot in the CCAA Championship Tournament, with 12 contests to go.
UCSD split a pair of non-conference outings at home last week...Justin Rahn and Richard Seigel clubbed home runs in the Tritons’ 7-3 victory over Point Loma Tuesday…Seigel’s homer was his team-leading 10th…Dan Kolodin went five strong innings to collect the win…On Saturday, Azusa Pacific rallied from 4-1 down to tie the score in the eighth and went on to win, 7-5, in 11 innings…Starter Blake Fassler gave up two runs in a five-inning performance and freshman reliever Troy Cruz went five-plus but got dinged with the loss…UCSD pounded out 15 hits, four by Rahn and three by shortstop Dillon Moyer…Outfielder Scott Liske hit his first homer…For complete Baseball re-caps, click here.

· The 37 runs plated by the UCSD Softball team against Cal State Stanislaus last weekend equaled its highest four-game conference series total since joining the CCAA in 2001…The Tritons also scored 37 vs. San Francisco State in 2002.
· Men’s Volleyball senior Carl Eberts closed out his Triton career with 1,044 kills, fifth best in UCSD history. Senior teammate, libero Chase Frishman finished up with 674 digs, second all-time to Eric Leserman (2009) who had 885.
· With two regular season and at minimum three Western Water Polo Assn. (WWPA) Tournament games remaining, freshman goalie Courtney Miller has stopped 293 shots, putting her second on the UCSD single season chart, just 37 behind leader Markayla Quane (2010). Meanwhile, junior Sarah Lizotte’s 75 goals this season have vaulted her into third on the all-time list with 212 and she seems a cinch to pass all-time great Julie Swail (245) sometime next season.
