LA JOLLA, Calif. - Junior outfielder Taylor Sepulveda of the UC San Diego softball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
She was one of 13 student-athletes recognized for their success both on the field and in the classroom. The group of selected individuals comes from institutions in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and PacWest Conference.
Sepulveda, an All-CCAA Second Team selection, boasts a 3.42 GPA in physiology and neuroscience and becomes a finalist for the Academic All-America Team that will be released later this month.
The Temecula native is one of three Tritons to earn a starting position in all 52 regular-season games. She has posted a team-high 53 hits this season, with 155 at bats. She also comes in second on the team with 32 runs and 18 stolen bases.
Sepulveda most recently played a role in the Tritons' 3-1 series win at Chico State, scoring the game's only run in Friday’s nightcap after leading off with a single through the right side. On Saturday, she was one of three Tritons to post multiple hits.
Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District teams.
The second-seeded Tritons are currently in Stockton for the 2013 CCAA Championship Tournament. Play begins Friday evening as UCSD takes on third seed Sonoma State at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and video are available for all fans that are unable to make the trip here:
