DUPONT, Wash. - The UC San Diego men's golf team is in Washington State for the NCAA South Central/West Super Regional, which takes place May 6-8 at The Home Course outside of Tacoma.

UCSD is one of 20 teams - 10 from the West Region and 10 from the South Central Region - competing in DuPont. Nine of the nation's top 25-ranked squads and 16 of the top 50 players based on stroke average will be in the field.

Joining UCSD out of the West Region are Cal State East Bay, No. 6 Cal State Monterey Bay, No. 12 Cal State Stanislaus, No. 24 Chico State, Dixie State, No. 11 Grand Canyon, No. 17 Hawaii Hilo, Sonoma State and No. 10 Western Washington.

Coming out of the South Central Region are No. 8 Abilene Christian, Cameron, Colorado-Colorado Springs, No. 20 Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State Pueblo, Dallas Baptist, Incarnate Word, No. 25 Midwestern State, St. Edward's and Western New Mexico.

The top five team finishers from the 54-hole regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Hershey, Pa.

Teeing it up for the Tritons will be juniors Fredrik Palmer-Picard, Lewis Simon and Jacob Williams, as well as sophomore Jay Lim and freshman Clayton Yamaguchi.

The Tritons have placed in the top 10 at all 10 tournaments they have competed in this season. Most recently, they took fifth at the CCAA Championships at Hunter Ranch Golf Course in Paso Robles.

Lim leads the team with his 75.2 stroke average, while Simon is a close second at 75.6. They are the only two Tritons to have played all 30 of the team's rounds this season. Lim has three top 10 finishes, including two sixth-place showings at the Thunderbirds Invitational and the Wildcat Classic. Simon's best placing was a tie for fifth at the Skyhawk Classic Club Shootout.

Yamaguchi has been hot as of late. His third-place finish at the CCAA's was the top result by any Triton thus far this season. Two weeks prior, he tied for fifth at the Skyhawk Classic Club Shootout in Palm Desert.

It is UCSD's second straight trip to the NCAA postseason. The Tritons finished 14th of 20 teams at the 2012 Central/West Regional in Arizona.

UCSD tees off beginning at noon Monday in the opening round. Complete tee times and pairings are available here. Live scoring, updated after every three holes, is available through GolfStat.
