Robbins Named All-American, Dixon-Word Earns Scholar-Athlete Honors
Release: Tuesday 05/28/2013

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego women's crew member Michelle Robbins has been named a First Team All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). In addition, Alyssa Dixon-Word garnered CRCA Scholar-Athlete accolades. The announcements were made Tuesday.

Currently in her first season rowing for UCSD, Robbins has been a mainstay in the Varsity 8 boat. The senior helped lead the Tritons to a silver medal at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships in late April, a performance that secured a berth for UCSD in the upcoming NCAA Championships. She was named to the All-WIRA First Team following the regatta.

In her most recent outing, Robbins was part of the Varsity 8 crew that took bronze at the 75th Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta on May 11. UCSD, ranked sixth nationally, came in behind top-ranked Barry and No. 2 Nova Southeastern.

The Antioch native is majoring in environmental systems at UCSD's Sixth College.

To be eligible for CRCA All-America status, the student-athlete must have participated in 75% of the team's races during the season and competed as a member of a varsity boat 75% of the time. Selection criteria include strength of schedule, regular season record, end of season regatta results, coach's comments and 2,000-meter erg score.

Dixon-Word, a four-year rower and two-year captain, holds a 3.69 GPA as a human biology major at Muir College. The Oroville native was a member of UCSD's Varsity 4 crew that placed third behind powerhouses Western Washington and Humboldt State at the WIRA Championships.

Dixon-Word was also a CRCA Scholar-Athlete and All-America pick in 2011 (second team) and 2012 (first team). She was recently named a 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honoree and was selected to the 2013 All-WIRA Second Team.

To be eligible for CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors, an individual must be at least a sophomore, hold at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have competed in 75% of the school's races.
