Brian Donohoe and Emily Osga were named Outstanding Male and Female Senior Student-Athletes for 2012-13 at UC San Diego’s annual Athletics Recognition Dinner…The event drew in excess of 600 people at UCSD’s Price Center Ballroom…Donohoe, from the Men’s Water Polo team, was a four-year starter for the Tritons and sports a 3.973 GPA in history…Osga, a three-time All-CCAA guard on the Women’s Basketball squad, boasts a 3.716 GPA in human biology.

Fourteen individuals were recognized as Athletes of the Year…They included swimmers Anji Shakya, Dane Stassi and Nick Korth, Cassie Callahan and Ellen Wilson from Women’s Soccer, water polo standouts Josh Stiling and Sarah Lizotte, Daisy Feder from Women’s Basketball, Alec Arsht from Men’s Soccer, Kelly Peterson from Women’s Crew, Max Jiganti of the Men’s Tennis team, Women’s Volleyball standout Danielle Dahle, the only freshman in the group, Caitlin Brown of the Softball team and Baseball’s Danny Susdorf.

For the fourth time in his career, Women’s Soccer Head Coach Brian McManus was the winner of the Excellence in Coaching Award while Faculty Athletics Representative Cliff Kubiak collected the Meritorious Service Award and former Baseball star Rick Nowak was named 2013’s Distinguished Alumni Athlete…For more news from the 2013 Athletics Recognition Dinner, click here.


Last week, the UC San Diego Athletic Department announced the initiation of an Athletics Hall of Fame which plans to induct its first class this fall…Nominations are being taken for the next several weeks and a committee composed of administrative staff, coaches, alumni athletes and community representatives will select the inaugural group of individuals this summer with the induction slated for the October 19 Homecoming Weekend…For more information on the Hall of Fame, click here.

This week’s edition of Triton Talk, UCSD’s weekly online radio show hosted by Craig Elsten, is scheduled to feature interviews with coach of the year Brian McManus, Outstanding Male Senior Student-Athlete Brian Donohoe and senior Ellen Wilson, one of the 14 Athletes of the Year.

Junior shortstop Dillon Moyer, an honorable mention All-CCAA choice who hit .298 in 2013, was the only UCSD player selected in last week’s Major League Baseball draft…The first-year Triton was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 38th round…He was the first UCSD position player picked since Ryan Larson in 2002.
