UCSD Places Eight on WWPA All-Academic Team

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team matched its program best, placing eight student-athletes on the 2013 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team. The league made the announcement Friday.

Juniors Melissa Bartow and Leah Gonzales, along with sophomore Rachel Brooks, are two-time WWPA All-Academic Team honorees. Sophomore Jolene Guiliana and freshmen Lauren FinwallLaurel KistlerCourtney Miller and Alexis Wieseler are all first-time recipients of the conference award.

The team consists of student-athletes that carried at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests and had completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at their institution. All told, 59 student-athletes were named to the 2013 WWPA All-Academic Team.

In 2013, the Tritons won their second WWPA title in the last three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Championship in Boston, where they finished an all-time best sixth.

Brad Kreutzkamp, the WWPA Coach of the Year, led UCSD to a 26-15 overall record and a No. 12 national ranking.
