LA JOLLA, Calif. - Former Triton water polo player Danielle Boyle Melman has been named UC San Diego's Assistant Athletics Director for External Relations. The announcement was made Tuesday by Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards.
In the newly-created role, Boyle Melman will be responsible for overseeing the Triton Athletic Fund, sport-specific fundraising, alumni engagement and special events.
"We are very excited to have Danielle assume this important position with UC San Diego Athletics," said Edwards. "Her role will be imperative in helping us continue to be a top program on the national stage by fostering alumni engagement and external relations. Danielle's student-athlete and professional experience made her a perfect fit for the position."
Boyle Melman joined UCSD Intercollegiate Athletics in the summer of 2011 as Athletics Program Coordinator. She was responsible for drafting game contracts for all home competitions, managing the application process of postseason bids and the hiring, training and supervision of the front office student staff.
Boyle Melman was also the logistical coordinator for several special events such as New Athlete Orientation, All-Athlete Welcome Back, the annual department Kick-Off Meeting and the ICA Recognition Night banquet. She also assisted the Communications staff with media relations, publicity, publications and website maintenance for the men's and women's water polo programs.
Prior to joining the UCSD Athletics Department, Boyle Melman worked at GEICO auto insurance for eight years. She held various positions in the sales and marketing department, including sales supervisor, sales analyst and partnership marketing manager.
In 2011, Boyle Melman also served as a communication consultant to Sports Club Meteor, an Olympic Training Center in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, assisting in the development of the center’s strategic plan and focusing on marketing and communication efforts internally and externally.
Boyle Melman was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain in water polo during her undergraduate years at UC San Diego (2000-03). Her 60 assists in 2003 stood as the program's single season record until 2013. She ranks in the Tritons' top 10 with 101 career assists.
