CONFERENCE ROAD TREK CONTINUES FOR NO. 25 MEN’S SOCCER
In the national rankings (at No. 25) for the first time under Coach Jon Pascale, the Men’s Soccer team went 0-1-1 on the road to open conference play last weekend…The Tritons will face another challenging pair of tests away from the friendly confines of La Jolla this week, traveling to Chico State (4-0/2-0) Friday and Cal State San Bernardino (4-0-2/2-0) Sunday…UCSD is now 2-1-1 overall.
Last Friday, the Tritons bounced back from a late, 1-0, deficit to equalize things at Cal State Dominguez Hills as the two sides ultimately battled to a 1-1 draw…Junior Alessandro Canale tallied the game-tying goal on a feed from senior Andisheh Bagheri in the 83rd minute…Sunday, No. 11 Cal State Los Angeles handed UCSD its first loss of 2013, prevailing, 1-0, on a second half score…Click here for complete Men’s Soccer news.

WOMEN’S SOCCER SWEEPS DOMINGUEZ HILLS, L.A. TO OPEN CONFERENCE ACTION
Rebounding from its first loss of the season, the 20th-ranked Women’s Soccer team swept its opening pair of CCAA games on the road at Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-0) and Cal State L.A. (3-1) last weekend…The two conference conquests lifted Coach Brian McManus’s outfit to 3-1 on the year and gave an early boost to the defense of their 2012 CCAA South Division crown...The Tritons now head to Chico State (3-1/1-1) and Cal State San Bernardino (3-2/1-1) to conclude a stretch of four straight road tilts.
Junior Cassie Callahan netted a penalty kick, earned by freshman Jamie Benedetto, at 60:14 to provide the difference at Dominguez Hills and the first of her two goals at L.A. Sunday was also the game-winner...The Tritons fell behind, 1-0, just 11 minutes into the game but tied it on junior Izzy Pozurama's first of the year early in the second half with Callahan chalking up an assist...Pozurama returned the favor just four minutes later with a cross that Callahan headed home...Click here for more on Women’s Soccer.
UNDEFEATED WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SQUAD OPENS CCAA PLAY ON ROAD
With eight consecutive season-opening wins to its credit, Coach Ricci Luyties’ Women’s Volleyball team steps into conference play for the first time this Friday, starting a brutal, seven-match road stretch at San Francisco State (5-3)…The 8-0 and 13th-rankedTritons then move on to a Saturday night encounter with Sonoma State (7-1)…Three of UCSD’s victories have come over ranked teams, including Saturday afternoon’s four-game triumph over No. 10 Fresno Pacific…That contest was the third of four wins in last weekend’s UCSD Invitational, the other three coming over Cal Baptist, Point Loma and Alaska-Anchorage...Fresh off an all-tourney performance at last weekend's Coyote Classic, junior middle blocker Sara McCutchan was named tournament MVP and sophomore outside hitter Sophie Rowe joined her on the all-tournament team…For up-to-date Volleyball information, click here.

Triton Women’s Soccer Coach Brian McManus gave ample credit for Sunday’s victory at Cal State L.A. to the ample support in the stands from friends, family and alumni. Among the former Triton standouts spotted on the sidelines were Kara Morris (2002), Lindsay Mills (2012), Sara McTigue (2012), Hayley Johnson (2013), Gabi Hernandez (2013) and Alexa Enlow (2013). Alums Jeff Klein and Chris Fujii represented the men’s side.
NORCAL TOURNAMENT ON TAP FOR MEN’S WATER POLO
The 10th-ranked Men’s Water Polo team opens with No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (9:25 AM) in Saturday morning’s first round of the annual NorCal Tournament in Berkeley…Coach Denny Harper’s club is 4-3 after winning two-of-three contests last weekend at Claremont…In a tougher-than-expected Friday match-up, the Tritons outlasted host Claremont, 17-12 with sophomores Tiki Toplak (four goals) and Jeff Jarvis (3) leading the way offensively…Saturday morning UCSD raced out to a 5-1 first quarter lead and coasted to a 9-5 decision over Pomona-Pitzer…Ex-Trojan Tommy Friedrich scored a pair for the Tritons Saturday afternoon but it was not near enough as No.1 USC eased to a17-5 victory…For complete polo information, click here.

CROSS COUNTRY SOLID AT UC RIVERSIDE INVITATIONAL
After posting a second place finish in the women’s division and fifth in the men’s at last Saturday’s UC Riverside Invitational, Coach Nate Garcia’s Cross Country crew will take this week off leading up to the Sept. 28 Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, MN…The Triton women, led by the fourth place finish of sophomore Marie Diaz, missed the team title by just three points…Diaz, who covered the 5K campus course in 18:03.7, paced a 4-6-7 Triton finish, followed home by sophomore Paige Hughes and junior Madison Tanner…The men, running 8K, featured at breakout performance by Tareq Alwafai…The talented sophomore, 10th while covering the distance in 24:42.6, was well out front of a tight, six-man Triton pack, headed by senior Kellen Levy, that finished within 10 seconds of each other…For comprehensive XC news, click here.
