LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 13th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team cruised to victories against No. 10 Fresno Pacific and Alaska Anchorage Saturday to complete its own UCSD Invitational with a 4-0 record and remain undefeated on the season.
Scores against FPU at RIMAC Arena were 23-25, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16.
Sophie Rowe matched a career-high with 20 kills. She hit .360 with just two errors in 20 attacks and also tacked 19 digs and a block onto her box score totals.
Four other Tritons finished with 10 or more kills, including Sara McCutchan (16), Danielle Dahle (11) (La Mesa/Grossmont HS), Caitlin Brenton (10) and Kameron Cooper (10). Dahle posted a double-double by adding 11 digs.
Rupia Inck led FPU with 17 kills and 13 digs. Hannah Butler had 24 digs and setter Bissie DenHartog totaled 36 assists.
The Tritons hit a season-best .302 (75-20-182), while the Sunbirds swung at .170 (43-15-165).
Scores in the sweep against Alaska Anchorage went 25-15, 25-20 and 25-23.
McCutchan once again was strong on the attack, registering a .571 hitting percentage with nine kills and one error in 14 attempts. She also had an ace, a dig and two blocks.
Rowe had a match-high 10 kills, while Cooper hit .455 (6-1-11) with five blocks and four digs. Brenton recorded nine kills and a pair of blocks from the right side.
For the Seawolves, Brooke Pottle had eight kills and Katelynn Zanders had a match-high 10 digs.
McCutchan was named the tournament's most valuable player, while Rowe joined her on the all-tournament team. McCutchan was selected to the all-tourney team at last week's Coyote Classic in San Bernardino as well.
The Tritons and Cal State Dominguez Hills both went 4-0 at the UCSD Invitational. Cal State San Bernardino and Fresno Pacific were 2-2, while Alaska Anchorage, Cal Poly Pomona, California Baptist and Point Loma all went 1-3. For detailed results from all matches, visit the tournament page.
UCSD, now 8-0 on the year, opens California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play next week. The Tritons are at San Francisco State on Sept. 20 and at Sonoma State on Sept. 21. The league tilts kick off a seven-match road swing, the team's longest of the season.
