MEN’S SOCCER EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FOUR; TAKES OVER FIRST PLACE IN CCAA SOUTH
Sporting a four-game winning streak, ranked 22nd nationally and sitting atop the CCAA South Division standings (tied with Cal State L.A.), Coach Jon Pascale’s Men’s Soccer team travels to Northern California this weekend to tangle with Cal State Stanislaus (3-4-1/2-4) and Cal State East Bay (2-6/2-4)…The two teams are tied for fourth in the CCAA North…UCSD, now 6-1-1 overall, one of the nation’s top defensive teams a year ago, has posted four consecutive shutouts, the last two coming at home over the weekend.
Senior Cory Wolfrom’s first goal of the season, coming with just 17 seconds left in the first half, and an insurance tally by transfer Alessandro Canale lifted the Tritons to a 2-0 home victory over Humboldt State Friday night…Keeper Josh Cohen stopped five shots in recording his fourth shutout of the fall…Cohen and the defense were at it again Sunday, stopping CCAA North Division-leading Sonoma State, 1-0…The lone goal of the contest came in the 31st minute as senior Andisheh Bagheri drilled a free kick off a Seawolf defender and into the net…To stay up-to-date on Men’s Soccer, click here.

W-SOCCER LOOKS TO REBOUND FROM WINLESS WEEKEND IN NORCAL
Now winless in four consecutive games (one loss and three ties), Coach Brian McManus’s Women’s Soccer team will try to find the win column on the road this weekend…It won’t be easy as the Tritons take on undefeated CCAA North leader Cal State Stanislaus (7-0-1/5-0-1) Friday and Cal State East Bay (2-6/2-4) Sunday…UCSD, 3-2-3 overall and 2-1-3 in conference, finds itself second in the CCAA South Division, four points behind first place Cal State San Bernardino.
In recording a draw and a loss at home last weekend, the Tritons let two winnable opportunities slip away…Friday night, UCSD out-shot visiting Humboldt State, 27-5, but couldn’t find the back of the net as the two clubs played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer…Then, Sunday, against No. 16 Sonoma State, UCSD fell behind, 2-1, after a poor first half, rallied to tie it at two only to surrender a late goal that resulted in a 3-2 defeat…Freshman Jamie Benedetto accounted for both scores, giving her three for the season…Click here for more information on Women’s Soccer.

WOMEN’S V-BALL TAKES TWO ON ROAD; AT CAL POLY POMONA, HUMBOLDT STATE THIS WEEKEND
Coach Ricci Luyties’ 10th-ranked Women’s Volleyball squad finishes up a grueling seven-match, conference-opening road trip this weekend, battling Cal Poly Pomona (3-9/1-3) Thursday and then going to the northern reaches of the state to meet Humboldt State (7-4/2-2) Saturday…After going 2-1 last week, UCSD is now 11-2 overall and 3-2 in CCAA play, putting them in a tie for third on the conference ladder.
Last Wednesday, the Tritons opened the three-match week with a four-set loss at Cal State San Bernardino, their second defeat in as many outings…Any after effects were shaken off Friday, when senior Lizzy Andrews racked up 10 kills and the entire 14-player lineup hit the stat sheet as the Tritons routed host Cal State Stanislaus in straight sets…Libero Brittany Lombardi had 24 digs and three aces and soph setter Heidi Sierks dished out 31 assists…UCSD made it two straight the next night, rebounding from a first game loss to dust off Chico State, 3-1…Sierks directed the Triton offense to a solid .270 hitting night, distributing 52 assists and the trio of Sara McCutchan (14), Danielle Dahle (13) and Sophie Rowe (10) combined for 37 kills…Click here for all things women’s volleyball.

The 14th-ranked Men’s Water Polo team gets its toughest test of the season Friday night when top-ranked UCLA invades Canyonview Pool for a 6:00 PM showdown with the Tritons…Coach Denny Harper’s club is now 7-7 after topping both No. 7 Loyola Marymount, 11-7, and Navy, 11-9, last week before dropping an 11-7 decision to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara.
A raucous home crowd of 1,639 watched the Tritons rebound from an early, 2-0 deficit to turn back LMU on Wednesday…A four-goal third period propelled UCSD as five different players had multi-goal games and junior goalie Cameron Ravanbach stopped 12 shots...Down, 6-4, to Navy at intermission, the UCSD again posted big third quarter numbers, going on a 6-0 run to take control of the contest…Ravanbach registered another 12 saves while junior Joe Dietrich and sophomore Jeff Jarvis rang up three goals each…For complete water polo news, click here.
