McCutchan Named San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month
Release: Thursday 10/03/2013

SAN DIEGO – UC San Diego women’s volleyball middle Sara McCutchan was named a Star of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions for her success on the court in the month of September.

McCutchan was instrumental in helping the Tritons get its 2013 campaign off to a 9-0 start, equaling the program’s best ever start to a season. UCSD finished the month with an 11-2 record and a perfect 4-0 line at home.

The junior middle blocker was named to the all-tournament team at both the Coyote Classic and UCSD Invitational, earning MVP honors at the latter. At the Coyote Classic, she powered UCSD to a 4-0 record with four sweeps. She led the Tritons in attack percentage and was second in kills, aces and blocks. McCutchan followed that with another perfect 4-0 record at the UCSD Invitational, only dropping two sets in the process.

The Irvine native boasts a .356 hitting percentage on the year, which puts her second among all California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) players. McCutchan recorded double-digit point totals in eight of 13 matches and notched her 500th career kill in September.

Currently ranked 12th in the country, the Tritons climbed as high as No. 8 nationally during the month. UCSD wraps up their seven-match road trip this weekend, playing at Cal Poly Pomona tonight at 7 p.m. and at Humboldt State Saturday at 7 p.m.

The San Diego Hall of Champions selects Stars of the Month from the professional, amateur and high school ranks in the San Diego area. For a complete list of this month’s honorees, please click here.
