After picking up four points at home last week, Coach Jon Pascale’s Men’s Soccer club returns to Triton Soccer Stadium this weekend to host the bottom and the top of the CCAA’s North Division---San Francisco State (3-10-1/2-9-1) Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay (8-4-2/6-4-2) Sunday…The Tritons, now 10-2-2 overall and 8-2-2 in CCAA play, are still third in the dogfight that is the CCAA South, trailing first place Chico State by two points and second place Cal State L.A. by one.

Last Friday night, senior Andisheh Bagheri’s penalty kick in the 86th minute allowed UCSD to pull out a 1-1 tie against visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills…The Toros had scored first on a PK 20 minutes earlier…Sunday, it was Bagheri again, connecting on another opportunity from the spot at 37:39 to lift the Tritons past Cal Poly Pomona, 1-0…UCSD’s defense, ranked No. 1 nationally in goals against average, kept senior keeper Josh Cohen from having  to make even a single save while recording his ninth shutout of the year…For all Men’s Soccer new, click here.

San Francisco State (5-6-3/4-6-2) and Cal State Monterey Bay (6-6-2/5-5-2) come to town this weekend as Coach Brian McManus’s Women’s Soccer team fights to propel itself back into CCAA Championship Tournament contention…UCSD, which went 0-1-1 at home last week, has just five regular season games to prove itself worthy of post-season consideration…The Tritons, 5-5-4 overall and 4-4-4 in conference are third in the CCAA South race and if things ended today would find themselves one position short of making the CCAA Tournament, an event they won last fall.

UCSD produced a lackluster performance last Friday while dropping a 2-0 decision to Cal State Dominguez Hills, a team they had tied on the road earlier in the season…It was particularly frustrating since the Toros scored one of their goals while a player short, which they were for much of the second half…The Tritons had a rebound of sorts Sunday, coming from behind in a 2-2 draw with Cal Poly Pomona…Freshman Jamie Benedetto, one of the bright spots this season, scored her fourth goal of the year in the first half and junior Cassie Callahan headed home her sixth of the fall at 69:39 off a long entry pass from freshman Kylee Southwell…Click here for more Women’s Soccer information.

After suffering its first home loss this fall, Coach Ricci Luyties’ Women’s Volleyball squad will be looking to get back on the winning track when Sonoma State (16-3/9-2) and San Francisco State (9-10/4-7) come to RIMAC Arena this weekend…The 16-3 Tritons, ranked 13th last week, collected a 3-1 road win at Cal State Dominguez Hills last Friday before falling in a five-set marathon against Cal State L.A. on their home turf the next night…Luyties charges now occupy third place in the CCAA standings  while Sonoma State and San Francisco State are second and tied for eighth respectively.

Sophomore Danielle Dahle registered 15 kills, junior Caitlin Brenton posted 14 kills, six digs and seven blocks and soph Sophie Rowe went double double (10 kills/11 digs) in UCSD’s, 3-1, triumph at Dominguez Hills…The Tritons out-hit and out-blocked Cal State L.A. Saturday but let six match points slip away in a disappointing loss…Sophomore setter Heidi Sierks handed out 53 assists, giving her 105 for the weekend and Rowe (20 kills) and Dahle (19) powered the offense…For Women’s Volleyball updates, click here.

Coach Denny Harper’s Men’s Water Polo team, now 10-10 and 12th-ranked nationally, returns to action this Friday night when No. 19 Air Force visits Canyonview Pool…In one previous meeting this season, the Tritons whipped the Falcons, 15-7, at the NorCal Tournament …For up-to-date news on Men’s Water Polo, click here.

The first “major” of the 2013 Cross Country season is set for this Saturday when Coach Nate Garcia’s team travels to Chico for the CCAA Championships…The men's 8K and women's 6K races will be run on a roughly 2,000m loop course at Chico's Hooker Oak Recreation Area...The favorite for both genders will be defending champion Chico State...Leading the 10-runner Triton women's squad will be the sophomore duo of Marie Diaz and Paige Hughes...For the first time in several weeks, Garcia will also be able to call on junior Madison Tanner who has been out with an injury...On the men's side, four different runners have been No. 1 for UCSD this year---senior Kellen Levy, junior Tanner Collins and sophomores Tareq Alwafai and Scott Acton...Click here for more information on Cross Country.

Junior Jay Lim tied for fifth and sophomore Clayton Yamaguchi tied for 10th, helping propel the Golf team to a third place finish as last week’s Sonoma State Invitational at Santa Rosa Country Club…Overall, the Tritons shot a 16-over par 880, putting them 14 strokes back of host Sonoma State in the team competition…Another soph, Daniel Yang garnered a 12th place tie while senior Jacob Williams tied for 19th while firing UCSD’s low round of the tourney, a 69 on the second 18…The Tritons play at Black Horse Country Club today and tomorrow in the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State MontereyBay…For more Golf news, click here.

This week’s edition of Triton Talk, UCSD’s weekly online radio show with host Craig Elsten, is scheduled to feature interviews with head coaches Ricci Luyties (women’s volleyball) and Nate Garcia (cross country) as well as men’s soccer standout Andisheh Bagheri …The show will be posted Wednesday afternoon at ucsdtritons.com.
