CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THURSDAY
The UC San Diego men’s water polo match against Long Beach State on Thursday, Nov. 7, has been moved to Corona del Mar High School. The game will still be played at 5:00 p.m. at Marian Bergeson Aquatic Center. The address of Corona del Mar HS is 2101 Eastbluff Drive, Newport Beach 92660. POSTSEASON LOOMING
UCSD currently stands at 12-11 overall in 2013. The Tritons concluded Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) play last week with a 4-1 record. The mark in conference play sets up UCSD to receive either a No. 1 or No. 2 seed at the WWPA Championships on Nov. 22-23. UC Davis controls its own destiny for the No. 1 seed with two games remaining against Santa Clara and Air Force this week. The Aggies only need one win to be awarded the top seed at the conference tournament. The top-two seeds are granted a bye into the semifinals at the championship in Davis at Schaal Aquatics Center on the campus of UCD. The champion will receive an automatic qualifier for the 2013 National Collegiate Men’s Water Polo Championships. The tournament format will feature two play-in games to reach the four-team championship bracket, hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto on Dec. 7-8.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Tritons' boast a well-balanced offensive attack, highlighted by five players that have totaled double-digits in goals, assists and steals in 2013. Chase Cockerill boasts an impressive line of 24 goals, 36 assists and 39 steals on the year to lead UCSD. Joe Dietrich has totaled 40 goals, 24 assists and 19 steals to complement the production from Cockerill. Three other Tritons have amassed double-digits in the three categories, as David Higginson has totaled 26 goals, 29 assists and 19 steals, Jeffrey Jarvis has produced 26 goals, 18 assists and 18 steals and Luca De Vivo has a line of 20 goals, 20 assists and 56 steals. Dietrich leads UCSD in scoring with 40 goals. Cockerill leads the team in assists with 36 and De Vivo has grabbed the most steals with 56. UCSD also possesses six players with 10 or more ejections drawn, led by Matt Michalko with 31.

WWPA STAT LEADERS
UCSD currently has three of the top-10 leaders in goals scored in the conference, leading with Dietrich at 40 scores. Tommy Friedrich (38g), Jarvis (26g) and Higginson (26g) are also inside the top-10 in scoring. Cockerill is atop the WWPA in assists with 36 helpers on the year, while Higginson is third on the list with 29 dimes. De Vivo ranks second in steals with 56 and Cockerill is following in third with 39 thefts. Ravanbach ranks second in saves with 225. As a team, the Tritons’ are first in assists with 181 to average 7.86 assists per game, first in steals with 271 for an average of 12.29 thefts per game, second in goals scored with 234 for an average of 10.05 scores per game.

WEEKLY HONOREES
Ravanbach and Dietrich have been named Kap/7 WWPA Players of the Week this season for UCSD. Ravanbach earned the honor for the week of Oct. 7-13. Trevor Allen of UC Davis also earned the weekly honor. The award was the second of his career, previously being honored on Oct. 24, 2012 after recording a career-high 19 stops against Loyola Marymount last season. The junior goalkeeper earned the award after amassing 50 total saves in the cage, highlighted by a 15-save performance in a win over LMU. Dietrich was honored for the week of Sept. 23-29. Caleb Guarino of Air Force also earned the weekly honor. The junior totaled seven goals, four assists and three steals in the three games for the Tritons. The award marked the first of his career.

TRITON NOTES
Head coach Denny Harper managed his 1,000th career game on Sept. 21 … Ravanbach sits at 483 career saves. The junior from La Jolla HS entered UCSD’s top 10 all-time career saves list on Sept. 25 and sits at No. 9, passing assistant coach Glenn Busch’s (1997-00) mark of 371 in the process … De Vivo cracked UCSD’s single season top-10 ranks in steals with 56 at No. 9, tying Jason Boettner’s mark of 56 set in 1996 … Cockerill sits nine assists away from cracking the single-season top-10 list with 36 dimes on the year … Dietrich set a new career-high with six goals against UC Davis last week … The Tritons sport one senior on its roster, yet have seven freshman … Seven different players have tallied their first career goal as a Triton this season: Daniel Straub (3), Bryan Lee (3), Connor Watson (5), Andy Moore (6), Nick Alexander (4) and De Vivo (20) … Daniel Schwartz made his Triton debut in goal in 2013, and has totaled 16 saves on the year in limited action … UCSD has created 130 counter attack opportunities, while the opponent has produced 88 against the Tritons … UCSD is outscoring opponents 72-47 in the third period overall … The Tritons have five players with local ties: Ravanbach (La Jolla/La Jolla HS), Straub (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS), Friedrich (Carlsbad/Carlsbad HS), Michalko (San Diego/The Bishop’s School) and Higginson (San Diego/The Bishop’s School).

HEAD COACH DENNY HARPER
Harper is in his 34th season leading the Tritons. He has compiled a career record of 583-427-4, with a winning percentage of .575. Harper has led the Tritons to 15 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) titles and 11 appearances in the NCAA national championships. He has been named WWPA Coach of the Year 16 times and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPA) Division II Coach of the Year five times. During the 2006 season, the Tritons set a program record in wins, completing a 26-6 season with their 14th WWPA title and a third-place finish at the NCAA National Championship tournament. Harper, a 1978 graduate of San Diego State University, began coaching at Rancho Alamitos High School, Indio High School and SDSU before coming to UCSD.

ABOUT THE 49ERS
Long Beach State enters with a 17-8 overall record and a 1-3 mark in MPSF play. The 49ers have lost three straight matches and six of the last nine since the SoCal Tournament on Oct. 12. LBSU has most recently suffered setbacks against No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, No. 7 Pepperdine and No. 5 Cal by a combined six goals. Long Beach State visited La Jolla at the beginning of the year for the Triton Invitational and grabbed four wins in the process. Sophomore Zacchary Kappos leads the 49ers in scoring with 41 goals on the year. LBSU also is receiving offensive production from sophomore Nolan McConnell with 34 scores, senior Carter Taylor with 33 goals and juniors Devin Mefford and Milos Vrzic, who have found the back of the net 33 and 32 times, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper Pavo Ljepopio has totaled 202 saves on the year for an average of 10.10 blocks per game and boasts a 7.74 goals against average. As a team, LBSU is outscoring its opponent 263 to 186 for an average of 10.52 goals for and 7.44 goals against in 2013. Gavin Arroyo is in his eighth season as head coach of the 49ers and was named the MPSF Coach of the Year last season after leading LBSU to a 24-8 record.

SERIES HISTORY
LBSU holds a 48-15 all-time series record against UCSD. The Tritons last faced the 49ers on Oct. 12, 2012 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. UCSD led 8-7 after three quarters before LBSU scored the final four goals of the game to win 11-8. Ravanbach led UCSD with 15 saves, while Dietrich found the back of the cage once in the loss. Vrzic scored three times for LBSU and Mefford contributed one score in the win.

ABOUT THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine opened its 2013 campaign with nine straight wins, but currently stands at 11-9 overall and 0-4 in the MPSF. After the Anteaters earned an opening match victory at the SoCal Tournament, hosted by UCI at Anteater Aquatics Complex, against No. 7 Pepperdine, they have dropped six consecutive games. The skid has consisted of two games against No. 2 UCLA and No. 8 Long Beach State, as well as one versus No. 5 Cal and No. 6 UC Santa Barbara. Senior Mitch Wise leads the Anteater attack with 59 goals on the year, while senior Bojan Hrlec and freshman Kyle Trush have found the back of the net 23 and 22 times, respectively. UCI splits time in the cage, as Alex Kazmier has started nine games in goal and has blocked 105 shots and Michael Bailey has eight starts with 79 saves on the year. As a team, the Anteaters are currently outscoring its opponent 231 to 149 for an average of 12.83 goals per game while only allowing 8.28 scores per game. UC Irvine head coach Marc Hunt is currently in his ninth season at the helm.

SERIES HISTORY
UC Irvine currently holds a 42-10 all-time series record against UCSD. The Tritons last faced the Anteaters on Sept. 15, 2012 at the NorCal Tournament hosted by Stanford. The battle went into overtime where UCI scored three times to win 11-8. Hrlec led the Anteaters with two goals, while Freidrich, Higginson and Michalko scored one goal apiece for UCSD.
