KANSAS CITY, Kan. - UC San Diego men’s soccer captain Alec Arsht put the finishing touches on an impressive sweep of postseason recognition when he was named Wednesday to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division Men’s Scholar All-America First Team.

The senior Oak Park native made the 11-player first team as one of four defenders. Eleven more student-athletes made both the second and third teams, with Arsht providing the lone California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) representation. The NSCAA’s College Division includes all NCAA Division II, III and NAIA programs.

On Monday, Arsht picked up NSCAA Scholar All-West Region First Team honors to move him into contention for Scholar All-America status.

Arsht had earlier earned NSCAA All-America Second Team, Daktronics All-America Second Team, Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, NSCAA All-West Region First Team, Daktronics All-West Region First Team, All-CCAA First Team and Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team distinction. He is the first player in program history to gain selection to each in a single season.

Arsht anchored a back line that was No. 4 nationally in goals-against average at 0.52 after leading all of Division II in that category in 2012. He started all 21 games in which he appeared, adding one goal and an assist offensively.

In the classroom, Arsht maintains a 3.45 grade-point average through the 2012-13 academic year, with the 2013 fall quarter having just concluded. He will graduate in June with a degree in political science.

To be eligible for NSCAA Scholar All-America, student-athletes were required to have a 3.30 GPA and significant athletic credentials, on par with all-region status. Only juniors and seniors in academic standing qualify.

Arsht, and fellow NSCAA All-American teammates Andisheh Bagheri and Josh Cohen, will be recognized on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 2014 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa. The Triton trio, their coaches and families are afforded the opportunity to attend the luncheon.

UCSD completed the 2013 season with a 14-3-5 overall record and as the CCAA and West Region runner-up.
