LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's basketball team picked up a 78-61 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory against Cal State L.A. Saturday night at RIMAC Arena, never trailing from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
UCSD improved to 11-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play, while CSULA fell to 10-6 and 7-5. Both teams entered the game with identical season and league records.
With the game tied at 17-17 in the first half, Triton Rachel Marty nailed a three-pointer at the 11:48 mark to put UCSD ahead for good. The Tritons led by 11, 40-29, at halftime.
UCSD continued to pile on the points in the second stanza. Twice the Tritons led by 24 points, their largest advantage of the night.
Megan Perry led all players with 16 points, while Erin Dautremont and Miranda Seto each finished with 13 points for UCSD. Seto added a game co-high seven rebounds and six assists and Dautremont was 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
Marty ended up with a career-high 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting, which included three three-pointers.
For Cal State L.A., Alisha Belt had a team-best 14 points and Kaija Powell had 10. Tina Fantroy pulled down seven boards.
The Tritons made 25 of 27 free throws and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 39-26.
UC San Diego begins the second half of its CCAA schedule at home next week, hosting Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Jan. 31, and Humboldt State on Saturday, Feb. 1. Both games tip at 5:30 p.m.
