LOS ANGELES – Five members of the UC San Diego men’s water polo team were announced as members of the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team Tuesday. UCSD’s honorees included sophomore Chase Cockerill, senior Tommy Friedrich, junior Dan Lorch, sophomore Tician Toplak and freshman Connor Watson.
The conference placed 38 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team in 2013 from six different teams. Those who carried a 3.0 cumulative GPA, played in at least 50-percent of the team’s contests and were classified as a full-time student were honored.
Friedrich, a graduate student and a pacific international affairs major, and Lorch, a communication major, earn their second such honor. It marks the first such career honor for Cockerill, a political science/public law major, Toplak, a political science major, and Watson, an aerospace engineering major.
The Tritons concluded the season 14-14 overall, earned their 16th WWPA Championship and made their 12th appearance at the National Collegiate Championship in 2013. UCSD finished the season ranked 11th nationally.
