Release: Saturday 02/08/2014

TURLOCK, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's basketball team couldn't hold onto a first half lead and fell, 65-59, Saturday against Cal State Stanislaus at Fitzpatrick Arena.

With its fourth consecutive loss, UCSD fell to 11-8 overall and 8-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). CSUS, which earned the program's 500th victory, improved to 12-8 and 9-7.

The Tritons led 32-26 at the half, but made only 23 percent of their shots in the second frame after netting 41 percent in the opening stanza. They finished the night at 32 percent and hit just two of their 26 three-point attempts.

CSUS shot 40 percent, which included a 48 percent mark in the second half.

UCSD suffered a huge dry spell in the second half, going 12 minutes and 24 seconds without a field goal. It finally ended when Megan Perry hit back-to-back threes at the 1:51 and 1:08 marks.

The Warriors scored 14 points during the Tritons' drought and led 58-45 with 2:19 remaining, their largest advantage of the game.

A jumper by Erin Dautremont with 34 seconds left got UCSD back within four points, but the Tritons missed three straight three-pointers over the final 22 seconds.

CSUS turned the ball over 21 times to UCSD's 16, but the Tritons only scored 15 points off of the miscues while the Warriors scored 12. The game featured 21 lead changes and nine tie scores.

"I think we competed hard, but obviously we didn't shoot very well," said UCSD head coach Heidi VanDerveer. "We got great shots, we just need people to step up and knock them down."

UCSD was led offensively by McKennan Bertsch, who totaled 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting and a 4-for-4 mark from the free throw line. Miranda Seto had 15 points, a game-high nine rebounds, four assists and six steals, while Perry ended up with 10 points.

Cal State Stanislaus got a game-high 19 points out of Jasmine Washington.

The Warriors swept the season series from the Tritons for the first time since the 2002-03 season. They won in La Jolla, 78-69, on Jan. 2.

UCSD stays on the road to play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday, Feb. 13 (7 p.m.) and at Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Feb. 15 (5:30 p.m.).
