Tritons Shut Out Whittier, 9-0

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 17th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team posted a dominating 9-0 victory against Whittier Friday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts.

With the win, UCSD improved to 4-4 while Whittier dropped to 1-2.

The Tritons won all six singles match-ups against the Poets in straight sets.

Sophomore Kyra Scott was a winner at the top of both ladders. In No. 1 singles, she defeated Meagan Zamilpa, 6-0 and 3-0. She also teamed with sophomore Paula Chou at No. 1 doubles to take a commanding 8-2 win against Adrienne Hamada and Zamilpa.

Chou was victorious in her No. 2 singles match, downing Hamada 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Nava Nowamooz won at No. 3 singles, senior Tara Vanooteghem came out on top in the No. 4 tilt, freshman Shannon Theisen won at No. 5 and sophomore Lisa Asai took the No. 6 match.

The duo of Nowamooz and Theisen defeated Gabi Etchegaray and Liliana Serylo at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. At No. 3, Vanooteghem and Laura Wilke posted an 9-7 victory against Alexis Agustin and Benay Weintraub.

UCSD hosts 10th-ranked Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m.
