POWAY, Calif. - Cal State Monterey Bay boasted three of the top four individual finishers and won the team title at the 64th SoCal Intercollegiate Championship Tuesday at Maderas Golf Club in San Diego's North County Inland region. Host UC San Diego placed fifth in the eight-team tournament.

CSUMB, ranked fourth nationally, finished with a three-round total of 893, 29-over par on a tough par-72, 7,167-yard Maderas course. The Otters owned the top spot following all three rounds and won by 14 strokes.

Monterey Bay's Dylan Jackson won the individual crown by five strokes with an even par 216. Jackson shot under par with 70s in rounds one and three and sandwiched a 76 in-between.

Three players tied for second place, including Brandon Hortt and Ray Richards of Cal State Monterey Bay and Jaskaran Sihota of 14th-ranked Cal State State Stanislaus. The trio all shot 221, 5-over par. Hortt carded a 69 Tuesday, the low round of the tournament.

Cal State Stanislaus (907, +43), which won the event in 2012 and 2013, placed second, St. Mary's (916, +52) was third, Central Oklahoma (924, +60) took fourth and UCSD (930, +66) rounded out the top five.

The Tritons were in third place after a 311 in the first round and in sixth following a score of 312 in Monday's second round. Tuesday's 307 was the team's best score of the tourney.

Lewis Simon was UC San Diego's top finisher, placing ninth with a 227, 11-over par. Simon fired a 77 in round one and a 75 in both the second and third rounds. He recorded 10 birdies, the third-most of any player. It was Simon's second top 10 finish of the season as he tied for ninth at the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Invitational Feb. 3-4.

UCSD's Clayton Yamaguchi also placed in the top 15, tying for 12th with a 14-over 230. Daniel Yang finished tied for 21st (237, +21), Jay Lim tied for 28th (241, +25) and Jacob Corbin tied for 33rd (244, +28).

The Tritons also had three players competing as individuals that did not figure in the team scoring. Ryan Rankin placed 26th (239, +23), Jacob Williams was 32nd (242, +26) and Jeff Roseth finished in 36th (247, +31).

"We played better today than we did in the first two rounds, but we still have some work to do to reach our potential," said UCSD head coach Jim Ragan. "We have a nice break before our next event, which will give us time to practice and improve."

UCSD competes in the Mustang Intercollegiate, April 7-8, in Goodyear, Ariz. Western New Mexico is hosting the event at Palm Valley Golf Club.
