Grant, Brown and Edwards Tabbed Daktronics, Inc. All-West Region Honorees

SAN FRANCISCO – Callie Grant, Caitlin Brown and Alexis Edwards of UC San Diego have been selected to the Daktronics, Inc. All-West Region Softball Team, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors for the West Region. The announcement was made Monday.

Grant and Brown were tabbed as All-West Region First Team members, while Edwards was awarded a spot on the All-West Region Second Team.

Grant started 48 games in centerfield in 2014 and led the Tritons in multi-hit games (22), batting average (.433), on base percentage (.475), runs (49), total bases (77), stolen bases (18) and hits (71). She ranks 31st nationally in batting average and finished second on the UCSD single season all-time list in average. The sophomore was named the Tournament of Champions Batting Champion after hitting .542 and was named All-CCAA First Team in 2014. It marks the first such honor for the Chatsworth native.

Brown started in 51 games and led UCSD in RBI (36), doubles (12), multi-RBI games (9), walks (15) and co-led in home runs (3). The senior was an All-CCAA First Team member in 2014 and a sits in second on UCSD career RBI list with 124, third on the career home runs list with 23 and second on the walks list with 84. It marks the third All-West Region selection and first on the first team for the Rancho Palos Verdes native.

Edwards led the Tritons in games started (24), appearances (32), ERA (2.12), opposing batting average (.230), wins (19), innings pitched (168.1), strikeouts (80), complete games (14), and shutouts (4), all career-highs. The sophomore ranks 48th nationally in wins. It marks the first such honor for the Oxnard native.

The Tritons concluded the season 34-18. UCSD made its fourth straight appearance at the NCAA West Regional and finished with at least 30 wins or more in the eighth consecutive season under head coach Patti Gerckens.
