UC San Diego Fields Two Boats at Dad Vail Championships in Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA - The seventh-ranked University of California San Diego women's rowing team had two boats in action Friday on the first day of the Dad Vail Championships on the Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania.

UC San Diego's Varsity 8 crew placed fifth in its heat race, crossing the finish line in 7:18.83. Barry, ranked No. 1 in the country, won with a time of 6:53.11 and was followed by No. 3 Nova Southeastern, No. 6 Florida Tech, Merrimack and UCSD.

The Tritons' Varsity 8 concludes action at the Dad Vail with a petite final on Saturday at 8:14 a.m. (PT). Alongside UC San Diego will be Merrimack, Charleston, and Philadelphia.

In its Varsity 4 heat, UCSD took fourth in 7:59.65. Nova Southeastern secured a spot in the grand final by winning with a time of 7:51.30. Eighth-ranked Humboldt State was second and Florida Tech placed third.

The Varsity 4 will now race in a repechage heat on Saturday at 5:12 a.m. (PT). The Tritons will be up against Philadelphia, Florida Tech, No. 2 Central Oklahoma, Humboldt State and No. 4 Mercyhurst. The top four finishers from the repechage will join Barry and Nova Southeastern in the grand final at 8:54 a.m. (PT).
