Release: Thursday 07/28/2016

NEW ORLEANS - The University of California San Diego had six honorees, four women and two men, on the 2016 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams for the NCAA Division II. The announcement was made Thursday.

Merin Arft, Anthony Capitulo, Kristen Daugherty, Dan Golubovic, Corinne Hinkle and Paige Hughes were the six Triton student-athletes who earned the distinction. Hughes receives her second straight award, giving her five USTFCCCA All-Academic nods, as she was a three-time honoree in cross country. The other five are first-time track and field awardees, though Hinkle had two prior selections as a cross country runner.

In total, there were 483 women from 117 institutions and 294 men from 90 programs who were recognized. To qualify, an individual must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least a 3.25, and have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the 2016 NCAA Championships.

Additionally, both UC San Diego men's and women's teams were given All-Academic status after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Triton women produced a 3.20 GPA, with the men combining on a 3.05 mark. A total of 117 women's and 66 men's squads were honored by the USTFCCCA.

The Triton teams were rewarded for the sixth consecutive year, and the eighth time in the last nine.
