POMONA, Calif. - Meagan Wright (Bonita/Bonita VistaHS) knocked down 13 kills and added 17 digs as the University of California San Diego defeated Cal Poly Pomona, 3-1, Friday in women's volleyball action.
Scores at Kellogg Arena were 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-20 in favor of UC San Diego, which improved to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal Poly Pomona, which has lost 12 of its last 13 contests, went to 5-16 and 1-11.
It was Wright's team-leading 15th double-double of the season. The senior outside hitter also hit .303 (13-3-33) and added three assists and three blocks.
Jessyca Beksa, Morgan Kissick and Rebecca Seaberry each had nine kills for UCSD. Beksa hit .333 (9-1-24) and also chipped in with three blocks. Kayla Evans (San Diego/Del Norte HS) racked up 43 assists, while Lindsey Chun had 13 digs and Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) added 12.
CPP was led by Andrea Bosnic's match-high 19 kills and 18 digs. Alexandre Gresham had 11 kills.
The Tritons held a solid advantage in hitting percentage, owning a .232 (53-181-151) to .171 (57-28-170) lead.
It was the second win this season for UCSD against Cal Poly Pomona as the Tritons earned a 3-1 victory on Oct. 15 in La Jolla.
In its final home match of the season Saturday (Oct. 29), UC San Diego hosts 18th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino (16-4, 10-2) at 7:00 p.m. The Coyotes are in first place in the CCAA's South Division.
Saturday will be Senior Night with Wright and Shaelyn Perez being recognized prior to playing in their last contest at RIMAC Arena.
