UC San Diego heads into the postseason at 13-12 overall and 10-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). UCSD, which had clinched a spot in the CCAA Tournament prior to today's match, joins seven other league teams at Cal State San Bernardino, Nov. 17-19.
"In the third set, there were six players on the court and in the fourth and fifth sets there was a team," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties.
The Tritons threw up a huge block Saturday, stuffing the Cougars 16 times, their second-highest total of the season. Freshman Jessica Rieble totaled 10 blocks (one solo) while classmate Simone Froley had seven to help keep CSUSM to a .114 (54-34-175) hitting percentage.

Freshman Jessyca Beksa was just behind with 15.0 points on 11 kills, three blocks (one solo) and two service aces. Senior Meagan Wright (Bonita/Bonita Vista HS) recorded her team-leading 17th double-double of the year with 12 kills and a match-high 23 digs, just three short of her career best.
UC San Diego hit .176 for the match with 50 kills and 21 errors in 165 attack attempts. After hitting .071 in set two and .050 in set three, the Tritons turned things around in a major way to hit .333 in the fourth and .250 in the fifth.
Maddy Newcombe led Cal State San Marcos with a match-high 17.0 points on 11 kills, four aces and four block assists. Madi Anderson posted a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs.
The Cougars had 11 service aces, the most by any UCSD opponent this season.
Cal State San Marcos, which is not eligible for postseason play due to NCAA reclassification, ended its 2016 campaign at 15-11 overall and 8-9 in the CCAA.
"Today's win gives us good momentum and confidence heading into the conference tournament next week," said Luyties.
UC San Diego will be the CCAA South Division's second seed for the tournament. The Tritons will play Stanislaus State, the third seed out of the North Division, in a quarterfinal on Nov. 17 at noon at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.
