VISTA, Calif. - Two Tritons finished in the top 15 as the University of California San Diego men's golf team placed eighth of 15 squads at the Cal State San Marcos Invitational Tuesday at Shadowridge Golf Club.
UC San Diego recorded a three-round total of 933, 69 strokes over par. The Tritons shot 310-312 Monday and posted a 311 Tuesday. They were eighth at the end of Monday's play also.
Navigato finished 11-over par with a three-round total of 227. He shot 72-80 Monday and wrapped up with a 75 in Tuesday's third and final round. His first-round 72 was the lowest round by any Triton.
Kucz went 78-73-77 for a 12-over 228.
"The team had the opportunity to move up the leader board today and simply didn't play well enough to do so," said UCSD head coach Jim Ragan. "We will have to regroup quickly and get ready to compete next week."
Cal State Monterey Bay, ranked 10th nationally, retained its sizable day one lead and won with a 6-over 870. Host CSUSM (+32 896) was second and Texas Wesleyan (+43 907) placed third.
CSUMB's Elis Svard was the individual medalist, the only player under par with a 215 (-1). Svard went 67-74-74 on the par-72, 7,031-yard course.
UC San Diego is back in action next week at the Cactus Thaw Invitational, which takes place Feb. 13-14 at Brookside in Stockton.
