LA LOLLA, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men's water polo team earned eight honors as the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the recipients of its All-Academic awards.
Senior utility Nick Alexander earned the Outstanding-level mark for maintaining a cumulative GPA between 3.71 and 4. 00. Alexander is a communication major at Sixth College.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Turner, junior goalkeeper Oleg Koujikov and sophomore utility Carson Ivancovich were honored at the Superior level for holding a cumulative GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. Turner, a student at Revelle, is an aerospace engineering major, while Koujikov is an electrical engineering major at Marshall College and Ivancovich is majoring in public health at Warren.
Freshman utility Noah Carniglia (undeclared/Sixth College), sophomore utilty Cole Martinez (sociology/Muir), senior utility Jack Ellinthorpe (economics/Muir) and sophomore utility Collin Sullivan (management science/Marshall) received Excellent-level marks for recording a cumulative GPA between 3.20 and 3.40.
The ACWPC placed 366 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team in 2016. Those who carried a 3.20 cumulative GPA, played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests and were classified as a full-time student were honored.
UCSD concluded the season 15-8 overall and 5-1 in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). The Tritons were ranked 14th nationally.
