VALLEJO, Calif. - Action at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout concluded Saturday and the University of California San Diego men's golf team placed seventh overall with Mateusz Kucz the top Triton in 24th place.
UCSD totaled a 917 (+65) over three rounds. The Tritons shot a 306 in Saturday's third and final round to go along with a 301 and a 310 Friday.
Kucz went 73-76-76 to finish with a 225 (+12), tied for 24th with Cal State Monterey Bay's Edward Hackett. Kucz ranked third among the 66-player field with 37 pars. His opening round of 73 was the lowest of any Triton during the two-day tourney.
Host Cal State East Bay won the title, topping the 10-team field with an 845 (-7) and finishing as the only school under par. Sonoma State (+6, 858) was a distant second and Monterey Bay (+23, 875) placed third.
East Bay had three golfers in the top three, including individual medalist Owen Hutchinson. He finished 5-under with a 208, shooting 68-68-72 on the par 71, 6,335-yard course.
UC San Diego is off until March 27 when it hosts its annual, two-day SoCal Intercollegiate at Carlton Oaks in Santee.
