Alexis Wieseler Named WWPA Player of the Week

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The University of California San Diego’s Alexis Wieseler, a senior two-meter defender on the women’s water polo team, has been named the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 29-Apr. 5.The announcement was made Wednesday.

Wieseler helped UC San Diego defeat three WWPA opponents in two days. The Highland, Calif. product tallied a game-high six goals, completing her seventh hat trick of the season, in a 13-4 victory over Sonoma State. She notched two goals in UCSD’s WWPA season opener against Cal State Monterey Bay and posted a goal in the Tritons’ 13-8 win over Cal State East Bay.

Over three contests, Wieseler totaled eight steals and dished out five assists.

This marks Wieseler’s third time receiving the conference’s weekly honor, she earned it once during the 2013 season and once in 2015.

UCSD (14-12, 3-0) will host Hartwick Friday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
