Ninth-Ranked UCSD Picks Up Its Third Loss, 7-2 at No. 6 West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The No. 9 University of California San Diego women's tennis team was defeated in the final match of its Florida road trip Friday, 7-2 at sixth-ranked West Florida.

The Tritons fall to 14-3 while the Argonauts improve to 15-5 overall.

UCSD started off strong by winning two of the three doubles contests. Ashley Chao and Becky Chou handled Jordana Lujan and Heather Mixon, 8-6, at No. 2. The No. 3 spot had Madison Hale and Alexandra Weil take a 9-7 win versus Valeria Mantilla and Diana Vlad.

In a singles match-up between nationally-ranked players, No. 34 UWF's Paula Lopez bested No. 28 Britta Mosser 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot.

At No. 2, Chao was downed by Paula Coyos 6-3, 7-5, while at No. 3, Chou saw a similar fate against Lujan, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Vlad took a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Weil at No. 4. Mixon also earned a 6-2, 6-2 win against Valeria Corral at No. 5. Rounding out the singles matches, Hale fell to Mantilla in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

UC San Diego returns home to host Hawaii-Hilo on April 3 at 2 p.m.
