DAVIS, Calif. – Eight Tritons from the University of California San Diego men’s water polo team were announced as members of the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) All-Academic Team.
UC San Diego’s honorees were freshman utility David Albers, senior utility Nick Alexander, freshman utility Noah Carniglia, senior utility Jack Ellinthorpe, sophomore utility Carson Ivancovich, sophomore utility Collin Sullivan, sophomore goalkeeper Jack Turner and sophomore utility Ari Wayne.
The conference placed 52 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team in 2016 from seven different teams. Those who carried a 3.0 cumulative GPA, played in at least 50-percent of the team’s contests and were classified as full-time students were honored.
It marks the third time that Alexander has received the honor. Turner and Ellinthorpe repeat and notch their second WWPA All-Academic accolade. It is the first such award for Albers, Carniglia, Ivancovich, Sullivan and Wayne.
UCSD concluded the season 15-8 overall and 5-1 in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). The Tritons were ranked 14th nationally.
