Student-athletes are nominated based on criteria that includes a 3.00 or better cumulative grade-point average, being at least a sophomore academically, having completed one full academic year at the school prior to the past season, and participation in 50 percent or more of the team's matches for 2017.

This year, the league recognized a total of 51 student-athletes, with 11 of its 12 member institutions represented.
It marks the second straight year that UC San Diego has led the MPSF in All-Academic picks. This is the sixth consecutive year in which head coach Kevin Ring's program has had at least six recognized. The team's previous high was eight honorees in 2014.
