Colla, Dalziel Produce Career Performances in Win Over Concordia

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Amanda Colla (Carlsbad/San Dieguito Academy) matched a career-high with 19 kills to lead the University of California San Diego women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Concordia University (Ore.) Thursday to begin action at the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase, hosted by Central Washington.

Scores of the match were 22-25, 25-12, 25-19, and 25-18 in favor of UC San Diego, which improved to 4-1 on the season. Concordia lost its first contest of the year, falling to 3-1.

"It was a nice win over a previously undefeated team," said UCSD head coach Ricci Luyties. "We had a solid blocking match with some good offensive stretches."

Colla hit an impressive .372 with the match-best 19 kills and only three errors in 43 attacks. She completed her third double-double of the season with 14 digs and added five blocks (one solo), giving her a career-high 22 points. The five blocks also equaled a career-high for the senior outside hitter. Colla has totaled at least 18 kills in three of five matches in 2017.

Jessica Rieble contributed 11 kills and Molly Dalziel had 10, setting a new career-high. Dalziel tacked on 11 digs to her totals for her first career double-double. Rieble attacked at .381 (11-3-21). Freshman setter Mary Bagshaw racked up 41 assists and a match-best 16 digs.

UCSD was solid at the net, finishing with 10 blocks. Freshman Julia Jackson had five and Jessyca Beksa had four.

The Tritons hit .262 with 55 kills and 17 errors in 145 attacks. They held the Cavaliers to .070 (46-35-158).

Concordia got 13 kills from Livia Strandberg and 12 from Britt Beyer. Faith Bowman had 15 digs.

"We have some great players on the bench and they have been performing when the chance comes," said Luyties. Tonight, it was Julia, who came in and produced at the net while also getting four kills."

UC San Diego plays two matches Friday, taking on Azusa Pacific at 10 a.m. and Dixie State at 8 p.m. The Tritons' lone loss this season came against APU last week. Both tourney contests can be followed live with video and stats here.
