Softball Earns NFCA All-Academic Team Honors, Lands Seven on All-America Scholar-Athlete List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of California San Diego softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic Team honors, and had seven Tritons recognized as All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 academic year, the association recently announced.

Second baseman Kendall Baker, pitcher Lizzy Beutter, pitcher Lauren Brown (San Diego/Academy of Our Lady of Peace), infielder Maddy Lewis, infielder Rachel Phillips, utility Mikaila Reyes (San Diego/Torrey Pines HS) and outfielder Caitlyn Weisner each received the individual accolade.

It is the third-consecutive honor for Baker, while Lewis and Weisner were recognized for the second-straight year. UC San Diego had a combined team GPA of 3.359.

The Tritons finished the 2017 season with a 30-22 overall record and a 21-19 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. UC San Diego won seven of its final eight games and went 17-9 at home.
