SAN RAMON, Calif. - University of California San Diego golfer Adam Navigato (Solana Beach/Torrey Pines HS) has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week after winning a tournament for the first time in his career. The conference announced the selection Wednesday.
Navigato turned in a masterful performance to win Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational at Blackhorse Tuesday. He finished with a tournament record 199, 17-under par and seven strokes in front of his nearest competitor.
The sophomore from San Diego County fired rounds of 69 (-3), 65 (-7), and 65 (-7) to top the 104-player field. He carded one eagle, 21 birdies, and 26 pars with just six bogeys over two days of play. Navigato's eagle came in the second round on the par-5 eighth hole, while his third round featured nine birdies.
His 199 beat the tournament's previous best score by nine strokes.
It was the first win by a Triton since October of 2015 when Clayton Yamaguchi was victorious at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
Navigato helped lead UC San Diego to a tie for fourth place among 19 teams at the Otter Invitational, the Tritons' best finish of the season.
With its fall slate now complete, UC San Diego breaks from competition until Feb. 5-6, 2018, when it plays in the Fujikura Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos at Shadowridge in Vista.
