Seven of the eight spots have already been claimed. From the South, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, and UC San Diego are in. From the North, Sonoma State, Chico State, Cal State East Bay, and Cal State Monterey Bay have qualified. The final berth is up for grabs between Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State LA, and Cal Poly Pomona. This weekend's results will decide the last participant as well as the tourney seedings. HEAD COACH RICCI LUYTIES
Now in his eighth season leading the Tritons, Ricci Luyties holds a 150-76 (.664) overall record and a 110-52 (.679) mark in CCAA matches during his tenure at UC San Diego. Four times Luyties has paced UCSD to at least 20 victories, which includes an impressive 26-6 (.813) campaign in 2013. The Tritons have qualified for NCAA postseason play five times under Luyties, reaching the regional semifinals in four of those years. In 2010 and again in 2013, UC San Diego climbed as high as No. 8 in the national rankings. Prior to coming to La Jolla, Luyties was head coach at Southern Mississippi for six seasons. As a setter at UCLA, Luyties helped lead the Bruins to four consecutive national championships. He was named the NCAA's Most Valuable Player twice and was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame. At the international level, Luyties, alongside Karch Kiraly and Steve Timmons, won a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics. He also played on the beach for 12 years, competing on the AVP Tour and FIVB World Tour with partners such as Kiraly and Adam Johnson.

McFARLAND A FINALIST FOR SO. CAL INDOOR HALL OF FAME
Former UC San Diego coach Duncan McFarland is one of 27 finalists for induction into the Southern California Indoor Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2018. McFarland, who coached the Triton women's program from 1996-2004, won an NCAA Division III national title in 1997. He led UCSD into the NCAA postseason every year, with the team finishing as national runner-up in 1998. The Tritons were national semifinalists in 2001 and quarterfinalists in 1996 and 1999. As a player at San Diego State, McFarland led the Aztecs to a national championship in 1973 and was named the NCAA's Most Valuable Player. He won three USVBA national titles and was a key player on the U.S. National Team from 1969-1975. The 15-member Hall of Fame class will be inducted in May. In 2017, current UC San Diego head coach Ricci Luyties was in the inaugural induction class.
