DAVIS, Calif. - The University of California San Diego men’s water polo team had a total of four players honored by the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA). Senior utility Arman Momdzhyan, junior goalkeeper Sam Thompson, sophomore utility Skyler Munatones and freshman utility Connor Turnbow-Lindenstadt were named All-WWPA. Turnbow-Lindenstadt was also voted the WWPA Freshman of the Year.

Momdzhyan was selected to the first team after leading the Tritons in goals (53), hat tricks (11) and shooting percentage (.491). So far this season, he tops the WWPA with a 2.94 goals per game average. This is the second year in a row Momdzhyan earned all-conference honors after receiving first team recognition in 2016.

For his efforts in goal, Thompson received first-team accolades. The Villa Park native recorded 196 saves for a .472 save percentage, 24 steals and six assists this season. This marks the first all-conference honors of Thompson’s career.

After a stellar debut season, Turnbow-Lindenstadt was named the WWPA Freshman of the Year to go along with second team and all-freshman squad honors. He leads UCSD with 62 points and 30 steals while also compiling 48 goals and 14 assists. It is the Tritons second-straight Freshman of the Year award after Munatones earned the honor in 2016.

Munatones earned All-WWPA Honorable Mention accolades. He has a team-best 25 assists to go along with 18 goals and 15 steals.

The Tritons host the WWPA Championship November 17-19 at Canyonview Aquatic Center. Second-seeded UCSD kicks off the three-day tournament Friday, Nov. 17 against seventh-seeded Santa Clara at 12:45 p.m. The winner of the championship earns the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship.
