KANSAS CITY, Mo. - University of California San Diego men's soccer standout Nolan Mac was named earlier this week to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II All-West Region Second Team.

Mac, a fourth-year senior left back, was chosen as one of four defenders on the 12-player second team. The Laguna Hills product (Laguna Hills HS) is a first-time all-region honoree, having already been selected to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Second Team.

Mac started all 16 matches he appeared in during the 2017 season, missing only the opener at Biola. In addition to being a key member of the nation's 19th-ranked defense in terms of team goals-against average, he contributed offensively with the first three goals and first assist of his college career. All three goals came in the 80th minute or later in September. A first-year graduate student within the UC San Diego Division of Biological Sciences, Mac was the only Triton on the 2017 roster who had completed his undergraduate degree, in physiology and neuroscience in June.

A total of 36 West Region players were recognized on three teams.

UC San Diego finished its 2017 campaign at 10-2-5 overall and 7-1-3 in the CCAA, placing third in the table. The reigning West Region champion Tritons were left out of the 38-team NCAA Championship field after getting eliminated from the CCAA Tournament in the first round at home by San Francisco State, 1-0 on Oct. 31.
