Heidi VanDerveer is in her sixth campaign as the head coach of the UCSD women's basketball team with a 104-44 overall record. Last year, VanDerveer was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for the second-straight season. She and her staff led the Tritons to a 23-7 overall record and a 17-3 CCAA mark as the Tritons won a second consecutive CCAA regular-season title. The Tritons qualified the NCAA Division II postseason for the 10th time since 2000-01, competing in the quarterfinals against Simon Fraser. In her first year with the team, UCSD finished with a 22-11 record overall and placed second in the conference at 17-5. The Tritons won their first-ever league tournament title. Prior to coming to La Jolla, VanDerveer spent four seasons at Division III Occidental, where she compiled an impressive 83-26 record and led the Tigers to four straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles. VanDerveer has also spent time as the head coach at Eastern Washington and San Francisco. She began her coaching career under Pat Summitt at Tennessee and spent 12 years working in the WNBA. In addition to her collegiate and professional experience, VanDerveer worked with USA Basketball as a scout for the 2006 World Championship team and the 2008 World Qualifying Tournament. She also served as a scout for the 2008 Olympic Team that won a gold medal in Beijing. VanDerveer graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1986 and went on to earn her Master's in physical education and sports psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1988. She was a four-year letterwinner on the basketball team at Charleston and served as a team captain as a junior and a senior.

Head coach Heidi VanDerveer announced the addition of Staci Gregorio to the UC San Diego women's basketball program as an assistant coach and video coordinator. No stranger to San Diego, Gregorio was the head coach of The Preuss School girl's basketball team from 2014-17. Gregorio also acted as a skills development coach for Hoop Blessings in San Diego for the past two years, training semi-professional, Division I, II and III athletes through CoachUp. An accomplished player, Gregorio was a professional basketball player for two seasons in Europe for the C.E. Diagonal Mar in Barcelona, Spain in 2016-17 and BC Hellenen in Munich, Germany in 2014-15. Collegiately, Gregorio played for San Diego Mesa College. She received her bachelor's degree in politics and government from Pacific University and earned her master's degree in sports coaching from the University of Denver.
