SAN RAMON, Calif. — University of California San Diego women’s basketball senior forward Dalayna Sampton has been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
It’s the third honor of the season for Sampton, who also received the award on Dec. 19 and Nov. 28.
Sampton posted her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season in two CCAA home victories last week.
The senior forward recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a win over Cal State San Marcos, 86-66, on Jan. 23. She followed it up with a dynamic birthday performance of 23 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in a victory over Sonoma State, 90-78, on Jan. 27.
The Vallejo native ranks fifth in CCAA play in points per game (15.3), second in rebounds per game (10.6) and fourth in field goal percentage (.528), one spot behind sophomore teammate Mikayla Williams (.539). Overall this season, Sampton is averaging 14.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
In addition, Sampton has scored in double figures in 10 of the Tritons’ last 11 games, and has posted double-digit rebounding performances in four-straight contests.
UC San Diego (17-3, 13-1 CCAA) hits the road this week for conference matchups against Sonoma State on Friday, Feb. 2, and at San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 3.
